Parking in Paul Street

Dear Parents/Carers,

Please could all Parents/Carers refrain from using Paul Street to drop off and pick up children from school. This narrow street is not suited to the additional volume of traffic this causes and is of great inconvenience to the residents of this street.

Your cooperation in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

Exams Office Notice – IMPORTANT

Summer 2012 Examination timetable

The full exam timetables for GCE A Level and GCSE Summer 2012 are attached. A personalized timetable with your child’s examination dates and times will follow.  Please note that at this stage, re-sit decisions have not been completed so do not book a holiday or time off school before June 28th until you have this information.

When reading the timetables please note:

  1. Written exam dates are set by the exam boards and cannot be changed.
  2. If a student is entered for two or more exams on the same day and at the same time, the clash will be managed by the examinations officer and arrangements detailed on the student’s individual FINAL timetable issued at the end of March.
  3. Depending on the results of exams taken in March, individual students may have to re-sit an exam and in this instance a revised timetable will be issued with the additional exam date on.
  4. It is strongly advised that no holidays are taken by students between the dates of the first and last exam on the generic timetable.  The school cannot be responsible for exams missed because of holidays and the exam boards will not accept appeals on these grounds.

For the reasons above all students should refer to their individual final timetables at all times once issued and any queries should be directed to the exams office in the first instance.

Year 11 Preliminary GCSE Entry Info for Summer 2012

Dear Parent/Carer,
Please find enclosed a copy of the entry list of exam units for summer 2012 which have been made on behalf of your son/daughter, including the total fees that the school will pay the Examination Boards for these entries.  The exam entries are made on the understanding that you agree to the following conditions:

  • Your son/daughter will be entered for all the examinations listed.
  • Your son/daughter will follow the exam timetable and will sit every exam.  If they fail to do this without good reason, they may fail the examination and you may be asked to pay the entry fee for that exam.  The Examination Boards have strict criteria as to whether they will consider applications for Special Consideration in cases of absence from an exam, and in order for the boards to consider such an application students must have completed at least 50% of the assessment.
  • Your son/daughter will attend every examination on time.  This means they should report to the exam room at least ten minutes before the scheduled start of the exam.  Candidates who arrive late will normally be allowed to sit the examination and be given the full time for that examination at the school’s discretion.  In some cases we are obliged to report lateness to the Exam Boards who may choose not to accept the relevant script.
  • Your son/daughter will wear full school uniform when taking the examinations.
  • Your son/daughter will obey all of the rules of the examination.  Please see the JCQ Notice ‘Information for Candidates’ attached.

Also enclosed is your son/daughter’s DEFAULT timetable.  This is provided to enable you to check the personal details and the date on which each written exam is scheduled.  It is not the FINAL timetable.

NB: There may be some re-sit entries required for your son/daughter which we are not yet aware of and which depend on the results from exams held in January and March and the scheduled dates of these may be later than the last date shown on the Default Timetable.

Please note that all written exam dates and start times are scheduled by the Examination Boards and that the school sometimes is allowed to vary the times slightly (but not the date) as a result of exam clashes and/or rooming issues.  The Default Timetable confirms the scheduled dates of your son’s/daughter’s exams but the Individual Exam Timetable, which will be issued to all students during March, will detail exact start/finish times and venues.  Therefore, students must refer to their Individual Exam Timetables at all times throughout the exam period. Any queries should be referred to the Exams Office.

I would also like to draw your attention to the personal details section at the top of the Default Timetable.  These are the details that will appear on the final certificates issued to your son/daughter by the Examination Boards.  If you wish to amend any of these details then please let the Exams Office know immediately.

Please return the signed confirmation slip below by Friday 10th February as the school has to submit the exam entries very soon after this date and any late entries will incur an additional fee. If the confirmation slip is not signed and returned by this date we will assume that the entry details for your son/daughter are correct and complete and submit them accordingly.

GCSE results will be available for collection from school after 10:00am on Thursday 23rd August.

Yours sincerely,

C F Whittingham
